[lwptoc]

Marmaris is a port town and tourist destination on the Mediterranean coast in MuÄŸla Province, southwest Turkey, near the Turkish Riviera.

Tourism is the primary source of revenue in Marmaris. It boasts an amazing site between two crossing sets of mountains by the sea, but due to a development boom in the 1980s, nothing remains of the peaceful fishing community that Marmaris was until the late twentieth century. The town’s population was 30,957 in 2010 and rises at roughly 300,000 to 400,000 during the tourism season.

It is also a sailing and diving center, with two large and numerous smaller marinas. It is a popular wintering destination for hundreds of cruise sailors, and the adjacent Dalaman Airport serves as well.

Marmaris | Introduction

Climate of Marmaris

Marmaris has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Köppen: Csa), which is distinguished by a hot, dry summer and a warm, wet winter. Between May and October, showers and rain are quite rare.

Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures reaching record highs during heatwaves in July and August. October is still warm and sunny, but with rain showers, and many visitors prefer to come in the early fall, particularly in September, when temperatures are not as high.

The winters are moderate and rainy. Winter is the wet season, with heavy rains beginning in November. The annual rainfall may exceed 1,232.7 milimetres (48.531 in); the rainfall is concentrated over dispersed days in winter and falls in severe cloudbursts, causing flash floods in flood-prone areas.
