Strict orders not to come home until they had found their sister, King Agenor set his four sons on a search determined to find his daughter. One of these boys, Thassos, was lured to a lovely island in the Aegean Sea; his spell was created by its rich foliage. Unable to go back home without his sister Europa, Thassos decided to stay on this magical island, always connected with his name.

Nowadays, seagulls greet visitors arriving on Thassos by ferry from Keramoti warmly. The island, with a just 100 km radius, can readily explored all around. Unlike some of its more cosmopolitan competitors, Thassos avoids luxurious yachts, chic restaurants, high-end boutiques, and a busy nightlife. Rather, it serves households with children and people looking for a quiet haven from the daily grind.

Thassos provides a wealth of immaculate beaches, each with own special appeal. Among the most often visited beaches with beautiful sands and glistening clean waves are Golden Beach, Paradise Beach, and Marble Beach. The island also features many secret coves just waiting to be explored for people looking for a more remote experience.

The historic relics of the island—including the Agora, the Theatre, and the Acropolis—will captivate history buffs. With their tiny alleys, whitewashed homes, and friendly residents, the little towns of Theologos, Panagia, and Potos also provide a window into classic Greek life.

The second biggest city, Limenaria, graces Thassos’ southernmost point. The city is best known for its brilliant yellow palace set atop a hill. Originally owned by a German mining company running until 1963, this tower extracted the mineral wealth of the island.
