Dominica’s capital and biggest city, Roseau, has a population of 16,582.
It is a tiny and compact city in the parish of Saint George, bordered by the Caribbean Sea, the Roseau River, and Morne Bruce. It is the oldest and most prominent urban town on the island of Dominica, built on the site of the ancient Kalinago Indian hamlet of Sairi.
It is located on Dominica’s west (leeward) shore and has a mix of contemporary and colonial French buildings.
Dominica’s most significant port for international commerce is Roseau. Bananas, bay oil, vegetables, grapefruit, oranges, and cocoa are among the products exported. The service industry contributes significantly to the local economy.
Roseau features a variety of restaurants and small stores, as well as stunning views of the mountains (to the east) and the Caribbean Sea (to the west).
