Ohrid is a city in Macedonia and the administrative center of Ohrid Municipality. With about 42,000 residents in 2002, it is the biggest city on Lake Ohrid and the eighth-largest city in the nation. Ohrid is famous for formerly having 365 churches, one for each day of the year, and has been dubbed a “Jerusalem (of the Balkans).”

The city is full with gorgeous residences and monuments, and tourism is a major industry. It’s southwest of Skopje and west of Resen and Bitola. Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were designated Cultural and Natural World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1979 and 1980, respectively. In fact, Ohrid is one of only 28 UNESCO World Heritage sites that are both cultural and natural in nature.

Tourism in Ohrid

Ohrid is a significant town on the shores of Lake Ohrid in southern Macedonia. It was designated a UNESCO World Legacy Site in 1980 as a town with a rich history and heritage. It is a site of historic importance as well as great natural beauty, nestled between high mountains up to 2,800 m and Lake Ohrid. Ohrid is Macedonia’s crown treasure.

Climate of Ohrid

Ohrid has an oceanic climate that borders on a humid subtropical climate (Koppen: Cfb/Cfa), with the hottest month’s mean temperature slightly below 22 °C (71.6 °F). The coldest month is January, with an average temperature of 2.5 °C (36.5 °F), ranging from 6.2 °C (43.2 °F) to 1.5 °C (29.3 °F). August is the hottest month, with average temperatures ranging from 27.7 °C (82 °F) to 14.2 °C (57.6 °F). November is the wettest month, with an average of 90.5 mm (3.6 in) of rain. The summer months of June, July, and August get the least amount of rain, with just around 30 mm (1.2 in). The absolute lowest temperature is 17.8 °C (0.0 °F) and the absolute high temperature is 38.5 °C (101.3 °F).
