Marmaris is a port town and tourist destination on the Mediterranean coast in MuÄŸla Province, southwest Turkey, near the Turkish Riviera.
Tourism is the primary source of revenue in Marmaris. It boasts an amazing site between two crossing sets of mountains by the sea, but due to a development boom in the 1980s, nothing remains of the peaceful fishing community that Marmaris was until the late twentieth century. The town’s population was 30,957 in 2010 and rises at roughly 300,000 to 400,000 during the tourism season.
It is also a sailing and diving center, with two large and numerous smaller marinas. It is a popular wintering destination for hundreds of cruise sailors, and the adjacent Dalaman Airport serves as well.
