The capital of the Kingdom of Tonga is Nukualofa. It is situated on the north coast of Tongatapu, in Tonga’s southernmost island group.
Nukualofa is the country’s economic center.
The Pacific Royale Hotel in Nukualofa served as the headquarters for the airline Peau Vavau. The old Royal Tongan Airlines had its headquarters at Nukualofa’s Royco Building.
Markets and a core commercial center are available in the city. The central business center was heavily damaged during the Nuku’alofa riots in 2006, although it is being restored.
In town, there are various internet cafés. The Friend’s Cafe is the most costly, charging about T$8 per hour, however other establishments charge as little as T$2 per hour. Due to the possibility of viruses, avoid putting camera cards into the slots. If you purchase a phone card, you can call internationally for roughly T$1 per minute using Skype.
