Description

The Long Thanh Golf Club, located in the old rice paddies and gorgeous landscape surrounding Saigon, has 36 holes. The Ho Chi Minh City golf course is set on a bluff 30 kilometers north of the city, providing unobstructed views of the Vietnamese capital.

Both the Hill and Lake courses are properly maintained all year, and they are longtime favorites among residents. Long Thanh Golf Club is preferred by many expatriates and Vietnam golf visitors over its more well-known neighbor Vietnam Golf & Country Club.

The Hill Course has huge undulating greens and rolling fairways. Each hole is framed by large oil palms. The Lake Course features numerous high-lipped bunkers and water hazards on nearly every hole to capture errant shots. The fairways and tee boxes on both courses are Paspalum grassed. Tifdwarf Bermuda grass is used on putting greens, and it can roll anywhere from 8 to 10. This grass mix is similar to other top courses in the area. Long Thanh’s rough is rather short and offers no serious challenge.

Each of the 36 holes has a distinct design, and the variation provides a solid challenge for both serious amateurs and professional golfers. However, higher handicappers may prefer the Lake Course, which is flatter.

The signature hole on the Hill Course is Hole 4, a par-3 with two equally outstanding greens. Both require an accurate tee shot because the putting area is out of bounds. The shorter putting area, encircled by the ‘Great Wall of Long Thanh,’ may be even more challenging, with club selection being critical, as there is water guarding the front and a rock face behind the green. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The par-5 14th hole on the Hill Course is another outstanding hole at Long Thanh. The longer you hit the ball, the more narrow the fairway becomes. If you are unable to reach the green in two shots, the lay-up shot demands extreme precision due to out-of-bounds on the right and a lake on the left. This hole is notorious for producing high scores.

The Lake and Hill Courses are both walking courses, with the option of using solo or shared golf carts. Caddies, 50% of whom are male, are quite good because most have been with Long Thanh for a long time and some are even single handicappers themselves.

The Long Thanh Golf Club and Residential Estate has also gone to great lengths to construct an impressive clubhouse. The locker and changing rooms may be the most luxurious in Saigon. After your round, request a shoe shine. The pro store is adequate, but frequently only has a limited range of items. In both indoor and outdoor settings, the main restaurant delivers a wonderful range of both Vietnamese and Western cuisine to golfers after their rounds. However, to take advantage of the wonderful views of the Saigon skyline, the restaurant should be more centrally positioned.
