Neilson Chalet Hotel Casale is a 19-room chalet hotel in El Tarter, in Canillo parish, operated as a catered winter base for skiing Grandvalira. It occupies a converted barn at Casa Casale in the Sant Pere neighbourhood, with its original timber beams retained in the dining room and shared spaces. The format is deliberately more compact than a large resort hotel: twin rooms, communal meals, a small lounge bar and a live-in host team form the core of the stay. Neilson currently markets the property for winter 2026/27, while the Andorran accommodation register has listed it under the local name Hostal Viatges Astral Xalet Casale. It is therefore best understood as a seasonal package-holiday chalet hotel rather than a year-round, walk-in lodging business.

The address is in El Tarter, a village on the Grandvalira ski domain between Canillo and Soldeu. Neilson gives the chalet as 650 metres from the El Tarter chairlift and about 600 metres from the resort centre; those are useful orientation figures, not a promise of a level or ski-in/ski-out walk. Guests need to make their own way to the lifts, and the route back after skiing may feel more demanding with equipment. Neilson notes that a ski-storage option beside the slopes can be booked for a weekly charge, which may be more convenient than carrying skis and boots to the building. Equipment hire, the ski-school meeting point and the lift base are all around the same lift-side area, so confirm the exact location of each service before setting out on the first morning.

Rooms are described by the operator as 19 twin rooms for a total capacity of 38 guests. Each has an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and toilet; complimentary toiletries are provided. Neilson describes the rooms as simply furnished and lists Wi-Fi in the lounge and dining area, rather than promising a connection in every bedroom. The building has no lift, so guests should expect to carry luggage on stairs. The old-barn conversion gives the shared rooms a strong timber character, but the property remains a small group chalet rather than a contemporary spa hotel: there is no large wellness complex or broad range of room categories. The scale suits couples, friends or a group booking who value shared facilities and a hosted ski week over extensive hotel amenities.

Meals are central to the chalet-board package. Breakfast and afternoon tea are provided daily; the evening meal is a three-course set menu on six nights of the week, with wine included. One evening is left free for guests to eat elsewhere in El Tarter or nearby Soldeu. The dining room uses long communal tables, and the lounge has a small bar for après-ski. These are guest services attached to a seasonal stay, not a general public restaurant with published daily walk-in hours. Neilson’s published material does not provide a current reception timetable or fixed check-in/check-out times for Casale itself. Its general travel guidance says check-in commonly falls between noon and 16:00, but that is company-wide advice, not a confirmed property-specific appointment; guests should follow their booking documents and contact the operator about arrival arrangements.

The chalet is intended for winter ski holidays. Neilson’s current accommodation page offers it within the Mountain Collection and describes flights, transfers, chalet board and optional ski services as part of its holiday packages. The operator’s package information identifies Toulouse and Barcelona as arrival airports, with a transfer of roughly three to four hours including a stop; these are package details that may change with departure date and flight schedule. The accommodation directory for 2024/25 gives a seasonal operating period from 19 December 2024 to 6 April 2025 and lists breakfast and dinner service windows of 07:30–10:30 and 19:00–22:00. Those are historical seasonal dining times, not a current 2026/27 schedule, so they should not be used to plan a future meal without confirmation.

El Tarter is a practical base for the linked Grandvalira ski area, whose sectors connect with Soldeu, Canillo, Grau Roig, Encamp and Pas de la Casa. The village itself is quieter than Soldeu, while the bus route along the main valley road connects the neighbouring centres. Neilson offers guided ski sessions and coaching for its chalet guests, but lift passes, lessons and equipment terms depend on the package and should be checked at booking. Because the hotel’s lift access is on foot rather than at the door, families with young children or anyone who finds carrying equipment difficult should compare the walking route, bus options and paid slope-side storage before choosing a room.

Confirm the operating dates before travelling, especially outside the winter package season. The current operator page verifies that the chalet remains in Neilson’s 2026/27 collection, but it does not publish a year-round opening calendar or property-specific front-desk hours. Local accommodation directories show older winter seasons, which supports the seasonal pattern without establishing this year’s exact first and last night. Ask Neilson about arrival time, baggage storage, dietary needs, room access and current meal arrangements; do not infer these details from schedules for another Neilson property nearby. For guests who want a small, hosted chalet with shared dining and a short walk to Grandvalira’s El Tarter lift, Casale’s appeal is its compact scale and included ski-week structure. Travellers looking for a full-service spa, a public restaurant, lift-side access or independently bookable summer accommodation should verify those requirements before committing.
