Description

The Nhat Tan Bridge, commonly known as the Vietnam–Japan Friendship Bridge, spans the Red River in Hanoi and was inaugurated on January 4, 2015. It is part of a new six-lane roadway connecting Noi Bai International Airport to Hanoi. The project is sponsored by an ODA loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The entire length of the Nhat Tan Bridge is 8.3 kilometers (5.2 miles), including a 3.7-kilometer (2.3-mile) bridge and a 1.5-kilometer (0.93-mile) cable-stayed bridge spanning the Red River. The bridge is 33.2 metres (109 feet) in width and is divided into four lanes for motorized cars, two lanes for buses, two lanes for mixed vehicles, and two pedestrian walkways. Each span includes eleven cable pairs.

The Nhat Tan Bridge was intended and constructed to become a new symbol of the capital, its five towers representing Hanoi’s five old gates. Hanoi teamed with the Dutch business Philips in the summer of 2017 to illuminate the bridge at night. The 16.7 million colorful lights that illuminate the Nhat Tan Bridge at night give it a hypnotizing and entrancing appearance. A drive across this productive bridge, especially at night, will be an enjoyable experience. The Nhat Tan Bridge will not only provide panoramic views of the entire area, but it will also make you feel as though you’ve entered a world of vibrant colors.
