Description
Cho Lon Mosque provides a stunning counterpoint to the other adjacent religious buildings’ overpowering rush of colors, scents, and sounds, as well as a brief history lesson about one of the country’s oldest religious minority.
The Cholon Mosque, built in 1932 by Vietnam’s Tamil Muslims, now serves Malaysian and Indonesian Muslims who live in Ho Chi Minh City. The mosque is an exercise in simplicity, painted in soothing blues and greens. While no Western guidebooks are available inside the mosque, English is spoken and visitors of all religions are invited to stop by and admire the grandeur.
Cho Lon Mosque is located in the heart of Cho Lon, in Chinatown, and is usually open every day of the week. Please remember to dress appropriately and take off your shoes before entering. Also, aim to go in the early afternoon or late evening to dine at the halal restaurant within.
