Description

Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda, also known as the Southern One Pillar Pagoda, is located on Dang Van Bi Street in Thu Duc District. It was modeled after Hanoi’s One Pillar Pagoda.

Monk Thich Tri Dung began building on the pagoda on April 8, 1958, with Buddhist Do Thi Vinh’s help. Even if the architecture and design are comparable to the One Pillar Pagoda (Dien Huu Pagoda) in Hanoi, the two structures are not identical. After almost 20 years of building, Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda was finished in 1977.

The pagoda is situated atop a 12-meter-tall pillar, with a figure of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara inside to provide a pleasant and serene atmosphere.

Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda receives annually millions of tourists and Buddhist devotees for sightseeing and devotion, making it one of the city’s most fascinating tourist destinations.
