Description

Doha, Qatar’s Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex is a tennis and squash complex. The Qatar Tennis Federation owns and operates the center. It hosts the ATP World Tour’s Qatar ExxonMobil Open and the WTA’s Qatar Total Open. It formerly hosted the year-ending WTA Tour Championships from 2008 to 2010. It also held the 2006 Asian Games tennis and squash disciplines, as well as the 2021 Padel World Championship.

Professional tennis in Qatar began with showcase tournaments including well-known players. Because of the popularity of these games, it was agreed that an official organization should be formed. The Qatar Tennis Federation was founded on April 9, 1984. Tennis was introduced to major sports clubs in Qatar in 1987. Four significant sports clubs hosted games: Al Arabi, Al Saad, Al Ahli, and Al Rayyan.

The Qatar Tennis Federation’s facilities, including the number of tennis courts, were expanded in 1991, and the new complex was dedicated on December 16, 1992. The facility just completed Phase III, which represented a significant renovation.

The facility is in the Al Dafna neighborhood of Doha, next to the Qatar Sports Club and the Doha complex. It is located at the intersection of Majilis Al Taawon and Al Markhiya streets on one end of the West Bay district.

It is within walking distance of the district’s major hotels and business establishments. Several restaurant companies, including Fuddruckers and Burger King, have locations within or near the complex.

The stadium’s initial seating capacity was 4500. In 2008, it was rebuilt and expanded, raising its seating capacity to 7000. Corporate boxes, lower, middle, and upper parts were introduced in new regions. There is also a media center and sponsor stalls.

To meet the demands of the locals, a spectacular VIP Tent as well as a general public area with food courts and entertainment were subsequently installed. The facility has 24 courts as well as all of the required amenities to host major tennis events across the world.
