Description

Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, also known as the Al-Rayyan Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar. It is now used primarily for football matches and is home to the Al-Rayyan Sports Club and the Al-Kharitiyath Sports Club. The stadium was named after Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani, Qatar’s Emir from 1960 to 1972. The former stadium, which had a seating capacity of 21,282 and was erected in 2003, was demolished in 2015. The new Al Rayyan Stadium can seat 44,740 people.

The Ahmad bin Ali Stadium is one of eight stadiums being renovated in preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

In order to make space for the Al Rayyan Stadium, the previous Ahmad bin Ali Stadium was demolished in 2015. 90% of the rubble from the stadium’s destruction is expected to be reused, either for the new stadium or for public art projects.

The new stadium’s development began in early 2016. This was accomplished through a collaboration between Al-Balagh and Larsen & Toubro. The stadium will be downsized to 21,000 seats after the World Cup. The new stadium was developed in preparation for Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

A massive’media facade’ with a membrane that will operate as a screen for projections, news, ads, sports updates, current tournament information, and matches is part of the refurbishment. Seating capacity has been doubled to 40,740, and all seats have been shaded.

The stadium was dedicated on December 18, 2020, Qatar’s National Day, and exactly two years before the country hosts the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. The stadium served as one of two venues for the FIFA Club World Cup 2020.

During the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, the stadium held four matches.
