How To Travel To Vinh
Get In - By Plane
Three airlines serve the newly expanded Vinh International Airport on a daily basis: Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Jetstar Pacific. Daily flights connect Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot, and Da Lat.
Get In - By bus
As the largest city between Hanoi and Hue, it is on the coast’s bus route.
The bus ride from Hanoi takes roughly 6 hours (200,000 dong). The bus ride to Da Nang takes roughly ten hours.
The local minibus from Thanh Hoa takes about 3.5 hours and costs 100,000 dong.
The Ninh Binh bus terminal has a sign that says 90,000 dong.
Buses leave Phonsavan around 6:30 a.m. most days and take 12 hours to reach Vinh. To get the best deal, shop around with travel brokers or book directly with the bus terminal. When you arrive in Vinh, you can take a bus to either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Be wary of touts or persons trying to assist you when you exit, as they are likely to overcharge, knowing that you are unfamiliar with bus fares in Vietnam. A bus with Hoang Long (a respected Vietnamese bus company) costs 150,000 VND, which includes a supper, at the time of writing (April 2017). Before you travel, look up pricing online to get an idea of what you should expect to pay.
Get In - By train
Every day, multiple trains run from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on the main route. The train to Hanoi takes around 6 hours, and the train to Hue takes about 8 hours. The train line connecting Vinh and Dong Hoi to the south takes a different inland path than Highway 1, and there is some beautiful scenery along the way. If you’re traveling along the coast by bus, consider stopping here and taking the train.
