Rin Rin Park – Japanese Park
Description
Rin Rin Park, also known as the Koi Fish Pond, is located in Ho Chi Minh City’s Xuan Thoi Dong Commune, Hoc Mon District. This is Vietnam’s first traditional Japanese zen garden.
Mr. Ngo Chanh, an expatriate Vietnamese living in Japan, established the 20,000m2 Rin Rin Park, also known as Tung Son Thach Hoa Vien or Koi Fish Park. The Koi Fish Park was opened on March 2, 2014, after 6 years of planning and 7 months of construction.
The 20,000m2 park is created around three elements: stone, fish, and trees to create a green environment representative of Japanese culture and garden style. The majority of the raw materials used to decorate the park are imported from Japan, including almost 4,000 tons of various colored and shaped rock.
The beauty of several art rock blocks carved intricately with exceptionally unusual veins, particularly the 110-ton-weigh rook “Tung hac dong xuan” (The flamingos flock beneath the shade of ancient pine trees) in the park’s center, will astound visitors. Furthermore, the park contains hundreds of Japanese historic bonsais of all sizes, including over-700-year-old pine trees.
The park contains a 500m3 fish pool with around 200 Koi fish imported from Japan with a lifespan of 60 to 70 years. The Koi fish, considered Japan’s emblem, represents courage and an unwavering pursuit of achievement in life. A crimson bridge spans the lake. A Japanese stone lamp system was erected to give lighting while also beautifying the area.
Koi Fish Park is a site for numerous entertainment activities and cultural exchange events between Viet Nam and Japan, as well as a place to promote Japanese culture to Vietnamese and other visitors. The park also offers a restaurant section where guests may learn about Japanese cuisine.
