Description

Ba Dinh Square is a square in Hanoi where the Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was read by Ho Chi Minh on September 2, 1945. It is named after the 1886–1887 anti-French Ba Dinh Uprising, which happened in Vietnam as part of the Can Vuong movement. When Ho Chi Minh passed away, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum was constructed to house his embalmed body. It is an important tourist and pilgrimage destination.

Ba Dinh Square is situated on Hung Vuong Street in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District. This is also the home of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex, a huge collection of historical and cultural sites. To the north of the square is the Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to the south is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the west is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and to the east is Ba Dinh Hall.

The 320-meter-long and 100-meter-wide Ba Dinh Square can accommodate 200,000 people. It consists of 210 grass squares linked by broad paths.

Currently, Ba Dinh plaza is one of the few green and uninhabited urban locations in Hanoi. Numerous significant events, including as parades and memorials for veterans, are held at the square. Interestingly, despite its solemnity during the day, the area is a favorite gathering spot for locals at night: families who want to stroll, the elderly who want to exercise, and friends who want to socialize. Ba Dinh Square can be coupled with Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Museum, and One-Pillar Pagoda for a full or half-day excursion.

If you wish to travel to Ba Dinh Square, you can select between public buses, motorbikes, taxis, and private automobiles, among other options.

If you have a car, parking is accessible at the Ho Chi Minh Museum’s entrance. If you like to use the bus, the numbers 09, 34, and 22 are available. They all stop on Le Hong Phong Street, which is within walking distance of Ba Dinh Square.
