Da Nang

Da Nang, located on the South China Sea coast midway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, is the largest city in Central Vietnam and the fourth or fifth largest city in Vietnam.

The city lacks the ambiance of Hanoi and the bustle of Ho Chi Minh City, but it has its share of sights and is close to the charms of Hoi An and the imperial capital of Hue, making it a popular vacation destination for those looking to explore the attractions of central Vietnam or relax on the city’s beaches.

As the main city in the Central region, Danang represents urban activity as the largest economic and cultural hub in the area. Surrounded by sapphire-blue lake and undulating mountains, the city is quite habitable and never lacks spectacular landscape or its enduring cultural spirit. This city’s reputation is bolstered by the city’s welcoming and sincere inhabitants.

With wide beaches, delicious street cuisine, the legendary Hai Van Pass, and a rising number of cafés, restaurants, and bars, it’s no wonder that Da Nang locals have some of the widest smiles in the nation. My Khe Beach’s soft sands extend southward from the hilly Son Tra Peninsula. Da Nang is home to some of Vietnam’s finest luxury resorts, yet much of the beach is still inhabited by locals who use it as a playground, gym, and source of income.

Tourism In Da Nang

Tourism has a significant role in Da Nang’s economy. Its importance as a transportation hub for Central Vietnam and its proximity to numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including as the Imperial City of Hu, the Old Town of Hi An, and the M Sn ruins, are the primary drivers of its tourism industry.

Mỹ Sơn  is an archeological site in Quang Nam that dates back over a thousand years. This ancient capital and religious center of the Champa monarchy, situated in a secluded wooded valley about 70 kilometers west of Đà Nẵng., once contained more than 70 temples and stupas of various architectural styles. In 1999, the site was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site despite having been extensively damaged by bombings in the 1960s. It still retains approximately 20 structures. The Museum of Cham Sculpture is located beside the Hán River in the heart of Đà Nẵng and houses a number of the statues, sculptures, and reliefs discovered at M Sn. These sculptures, which range from the fourth to the fourteenth centuries, feature sensual artwork depicting ordinary activities as well as Hindu and Buddhist religious themes.

South of Đà Nẵng., the Marble Mountains are jagged limestone cliffs that extend from the coastline. Paths go to the top of the wooded cliffs, where Non Nuoc Beach and the South China Sea are visible. Originally, the Cham people resided in the caves carved into the rocks. Later, the Nguyen Dynasty created numerous pagodas within the tunnels. At its base, at Nước Village, the Marble Mountains are home to an assortment of sculptors and artists. Non Nuoc Beach is a white sand beach on the outskirts of Đà Nẵng that is renowned for both its magnificent beauty and its history as a destination for American soldiers seeking rest and pleasure during the Vietnam War, when it was known as “China Beach.” Today, the beach, along with My Khê beach to the north, is home to luxury resorts, surfing, and entertainment venues. Bà Nà Hills is a mountain resort with a 5-kilometer-long cable car system that carries guests to the 1487-meter-high summit of Bà Nà. Within a few kilometers of the city is Sn Trà Mountain, which features various natural streams and coastal resorts.

Geography Of Da Nang

Đà Nẵng is the biggest city in central Vietnam and one of the most significant ports in the nation. Đà Nẵng is surrounded by mountains on one side and the South China Sea on the other. It borders Tha Thiên–Hu Province to the north through the Hi Vân Pass, Qung Nam Province to the south and west, and the ocean to the east. It is located 759 kilometers (472 miles) south of Hanoi and 960 kilometers (600 miles) north of Ho Chi Minh City.

Đà Nẵng is geologically located along the fringe of the Truong Son Orogenic Zone, a Paleozoic fold belt whose primary deformation occurred during the early Carboniferous epoch. The rugged Annamite mountain range to the north and north-west, with peaks varying in height from 700 to 1,500 metres (2,300 to 4,900 ft), and low-lying coastal plains with some salting to the south and east, with various white sand beaches along the coast, dominate the landscape of Đà Nẵng.

Internet, Comunication In Da Nang

There are several Internet cafes dotted around Da Nang that will you a nominal amount for an hour of web, e-mail, or anything you want usage of. You’ll recognize them by their computer-lined walls. Online gaming is enormous (and contentious) in Vietnam, and you’ll often find these establishments filled with adolescents playing online games together, particularly after school and into the evening. Some stores will have printers, while others may not; if you have a thumb drive, you can always load it with what you need to print and take it to a print shop.

If you’re looking for a quiet location to relax and check your email, you may be better off visiting a local coffee shop; most of them provide free Wi-Fi and are rather quiet outside of peak hours (early mornings and lunchtime).

A post office branch is conveniently located on Bach Dang Road, just opposite to the Han River Bridge. There are also large branches in each of Da Nang’s districts, so you may mail a letter or postcard from wherever you go.

How To Travel To Da Nang

Da Nang International Airport is the smallest of Vietnam’s three international airports. Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Jetstar Pacific offer frequent flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as domestic service between Buon Ma Thuot, Da Lat, Haiphong, Nha Trang, and Pleiku, and international service between Guangzhou, Seoul-Incheon, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai-Pudong, Siem Reap, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Tokyo-Narita.

Aside from a money changer, airport amenities are very modest, but considerable updating was done to the airport in late-2007 and early-2008 making the airport one of country’s most contemporary. When compared to larger Vietnamese airports, Da Nang is a little more relaxed.

How To Travel Around Da Nang

Taxi costs in Da Nang are fairly reasonable, and scams are less widespread than in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, but you’re better off traveling with a reputed business to avoid any problems.

Da Nang has little bus service within the city, but it does have a very reliable (albeit not particularly pleasant) intercity bus to Hoi An. If you want to take the bus from the train station, you can exit the station and walk to the next major street (Le Duan St, in front of #287, less than a 5-minute walk).

Most hotels and rental firms in Da Nang charge between 80,000 and 150,000 dong per day to rent a motorbike to travel to Hoi An. You might bring down the price by bargaining and renting for a number of days.

Food & Restaurants in Da Nang

Da Nang, while not a culinary mecca like the former imperial city Hue, offers more than enough variety to keep you well nourished during your visit. Seafood (hải sản) is popular here, so don’t be shocked if you see a lot of it—fish (cá), shrimp (tôm), squid (mực), clams (nghêu), snails (ốc), and so on. Give it a shot if it seems fresh and well-cooked.

Then there are regional specialties like mì Quảng, or Quang Nam-style noodles, featuring chicken, shrimp, quail eggs, peanuts and rice crackers in a turmeric-spiced broth; bún chả cá, or rice vermicelli with fish sausage; and bún mắm, or rice vermicelli served with a high-octane fish sauce that’s not for the weak of palate. Central Vietnamese enjoy spicy food as well, so be aware that the chili peppers (ớt) you may encounter on your table are the genuine deal, even if they appear tiny and innocuous.

Stay Safe & Healthy in Da Nang

In general, you will discover that Da Nang is a safer and somewhat more relaxed city than Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Obviously, as the number of tourists increases, things begin to alter. This does not imply that you will need to carry your suitcase while walking down the street, as you would in larger cities. Nonetheless, it is prudent to obey the following guidelines to minimize unnecessary hassles:

  • Avoid wearing extravagant jewelry or apparel that demonstrates your (relative) wealth.
  • Carry money and copies of crucial documents in a thin wallet as opposed to a bulky purse.
