Academia Gallery’s operations are naturally tied to the teaching process at the National Academy of Art, and its display strategy is an essential and significant component of the city’s creative life. It is a meeting place for students, professors, and artists from Bulgaria and abroad, as well as a venue for curatorial initiatives, festivals, biennials, and conferences. These are exhibits of master’s degree students from the Academy’s two faculties, as well as exhibitions and workshops connected to national and international initiatives. The gallery features exhibits by instructors and students from foreign art institutions, as well as known and famous personalities in Bulgarian and worldwide art. Various treasures from the Academy’s vast Museum Fund are shown on a regular basis.

The International Student’s First Biennial of Drawing, the International Digital Arts Festival DA Fest, the exhibition for the Museum Awards ESSL, Austria, Prof. Bozidar Boyadziev’s curatorial project “Toys,” the flashback “Dozen” of Poster and Visual Communication Dept., and others were among the important cultural highlights that took place in the gallery over the past year. The solo shows of Professors Andrey Daniel, Hristo Staykov, Victor Paunov, Rumen Skorchev, and Todor Vardzhiev had a significant impact on the creative community. The wonderful images of Nelly (from the collection of the Benaki Museum in Greece), the classic of modern Algerian art, Mohammed Cada, current French photographers Franz Aabaa and Bernard Kose, and others may be found in the gallery’s international program. As a result, the gallery’s current aim is to serve as a link between the art of the past and the sometimes difficult and conflicting present.
