Armeets Arena Sofia is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Sofia, Bulgaria. It has a capacity of 12,373 seats. For concerts, the capacity may be increased to 17,906 people. Before the Bulgarian insurance firm Armeets obtained the name rights, it was known as Arena Sofia. There are 887 parking lots, 614 of which are located in a central external parking lot, 231 of which are located along roadways, and 42 of which are allocated for handicapped persons.

The arena, which was designed as a universal venue for cultural events and sports, could accommodate up to 30 different sports, including basketball, volleyball, handball, futsal, boxing, tennis, weightlifting, fencing, and gymnastics contests, as well as concerts.

Jean Michel Jarre performed the first big performance at the venue, followed by Sade and Amorphis.

The 2012 European Taekwon-do ITF championship was held in May, followed by the 2012 Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships in the first three days of June. The event was previously given to the city in 2004.

For the first time in Bulgaria, the arena hosted the Cirque du Soleil production Saltimbanco for three days in February 2012. It also hosted the traveling ice performance Disney on Ice from November 9 to 11, 2012, marking another first for the nation.

On November 21, 2015, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 was held at the arena, marking the first time a Eurovision event was conducted in Bulgaria.

On June 9, 2012, the arena hosted its first sold-out game, with 12,501 people (128 more than the stated capacity) attending the Olympic qualifying volleyball match between France and Bulgaria. It will be used for the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup in 2020.

The arena has long been used by Bulgaria’s governing GERB party, which has conducted rallies and conferences there. This tendency was deviated from for the late 2019 Bulgarian local elections, when the party decided to run a “humble” campaign.

The Arena

Arena Armeec Sofia is a multifunctional sports hall. 2011 is the year of completion. The primary purpose of MSH Arena Armeec Sofia is to offer the greatest circumstances for Bulgarian sportsmen to participate in sports events. The hall’s architecture complies with all international federation standards and norms for organizing and holding World and European Championships, as well as high-level commercial competitions.

When marketing musical events, the telescopic stands may be folded completely or partly. Additional seats and stands may be placed on the arena. Every zone of the arena may be used to construct a scene or a podium. When marketing large events, the hall’s capacity may be increased to 17 906 seats (with stands). The surrounding hall areas may be utilized for revues, exhibits, and other activities.

Technical Data

Capacity for seating MSH “Arena Armeec Sofia” features a total of 12 373 seats, 2256 of which are on long telescopic stands, 1248 on short telescopic stands, and 206 VIP seats in a separate zone accessible from level 2. There are 96 seats reserved just for journalists. The hall’s dimensions are determined by whether the telescopic stands are folded or unfolded. Folded telescopic stands have a width of 53,20 m and a length of 77,20 m. Unfolded telescopic stands have a width of 32,80 m and a length of 56,80 m.

Vip Boxes

The VIP boxes, which have a total capacity of 206 seats, are located on level 2 in sectors A2, B2, and C2. If necessary, several of the VIP boxes may be configured as offices. The majority of them have their own sink, and some have a WC. Separate elevators and stairs provide access to the VIP boxes.

Foyers and refreshment area

The foyers, which are located on Levels 0, 1, 2, and 3, provide excellent options for exhibition, commercial, and advertising operations. They are full of light and space, and they handle all of the spectators from the hall’s outer entrances. There are 16 refreshment facilities on Levels 0, 1, and 3 that provide snacks and cool beverages.

Training hall

The Training Arena is intended to serve as an additional sports facility when major sporting events are held in the main hall. It may also serve as a completely self-contained institution. The following sports pitches are accessible at the Training hall: – Volleyball – one main pitch longitudinal, two training pitches latitudinal – Basketball – 1 longitudinal main pitch, 2 latitudinal training pitches – 1 pitch longitudinal in handball – 1 pitch longitudinal in tennis – 3 pitches of rhythmic gymnastics.

Restaurant

Level 2 is where the restaurant is located. It features 68 seats and 42 bar seats, all of which have an inside view of the Arena. It also provides a lovely outside view of the Vitosha mountain and the “Tsarigradsko shose” Boulevard. It has its own kitchen, which is located on the same level as the restaurant. When there are sporting or other events, the restaurant is solely open to VIP visitors.

Parking

There are 887 parking lots, 614 of which are located in a central external parking lot, 231 of which are located near roadways, and 42 of which are dimensioned for handicapped people. There are also eight bus stops and eight parking spaces for TIRs and other large vehicles. The inner transit route is 923 meters long and connects all of the hall’s entrances.
