Pic de Setúria is a grassy summit of about 2,512–2,517 metres on the high ridge above the Setúria valley in La Massana. It is often visited as the first high point on the way to Pic dels Llacs, the higher summit farther along the ridge. That distinction matters when planning: a route described as the Pic dels Llacs hike passes over Pic de Setúria but continues beyond it, so the advertised distance and ascent may not represent a simple out-and-back to Setúria alone. The summit is an open, pastoral viewpoint rather than a developed attraction, and its appeal comes from the broad panorama over Andorran ridges and the high valleys toward Catalonia.
The clearest documented walking approach begins near Port de Cabús, reached by the CG-4 road through Pal. Visit Andorra’s Pic dels Llacs route describes starting from the pass, climbing a grassy slope in a southerly direction, then joining a path that levels briefly before reaching a junction. From there, the route turns west and follows the ridge on a steeper slope to Pic de Setúria. The official itinerary then continues along the ridge to Pic dels Llacs. It is described as a moderate hike, with about 3.28 kilometres for the full point-to-point route and a published ascent/descent figure of +389 metres / -1,640 metres; the latter reflects the route’s layout and should not be interpreted as the gain for a return walk to Setúria. Visitors wanting only this summit can turn around at Pic de Setúria, but should check the GPX and map for their precise return route rather than assuming the official through-route loops back to the pass.
The climb is relatively short but gains height quickly over open ground. The upper slope has little shelter, and its grassy surface can become slippery when wet or icy. The route’s position on a ridge makes it easy to follow in good visibility but vulnerable to cloud and wind. Waymarks and paths are useful guides, yet hikers should carry a map or offline navigation because junctions and informal tracks can be confusing, especially where livestock paths cross the main route. The official walking description notes pastoral use in the wider area, and the Setúria valley has extensive grazing land. Give animals room, do not feed them, keep dogs under control and close gates behind you.
From Pic de Setúria, views open toward the higher summits of the Comapedrosa region, including Sanfons, Roca Entravessada and Comapedrosa, as well as the western ridges toward Monteixo. Looking along the crest, Pic dels Llacs rises farther on and provides a natural continuation for walkers with sufficient energy and time. The landscape is a mix of soft grass slopes, rocky ridgelines and broad high pastures, a different character from the steep glacial basins around Andorra’s tallest peaks. Because the summit is exposed and has no formal facilities, take a layer against wind, food, water and sun protection. There is no dependable water source identified on the ridge.
The Pic dels Llacs route is rated moderate, but conditions can make the same path substantially more difficult. Snow may cover the grassy slope outside the summer season, obscure the path and create icy patches on the ridge. In winter, this is not automatically a hiking route: snow travel requires suitable equipment and mountain judgment, and avalanche conditions must be assessed by competent users. Summer thunderstorms are also a concern on the open crest. Check a high-mountain forecast before departure, start early enough to be off exposed ground well before afternoon storms, and turn back if cloud hides the way or wind makes balance uncertain. Do not count on the road or any local business being open year-round; road conditions and services around Port de Cabús vary seasonally.
Pic de Setúria works well as a shorter goal for walkers seeking a high viewpoint without continuing to the more distant Pic dels Llacs. It is also a natural first stage for hikers undertaking the full ridge route. The official route’s distance and elevation profile belong to that longer outing, not to every possible itinerary to the first summit. A return from Setúria can retrace the ridge toward the original path and pass, but the exact line should be confirmed on a current map. If the group is tired at the first summit, stopping there is a sensible choice rather than pressing on simply because Pic dels Llacs is visible. The descent over grassy ground can be as demanding for knees and footing as the ascent is for fitness.
There are no fixed opening hours for the summit. Access depends on weather, daylight, the condition of the Port de Cabús road and any seasonal restrictions in the ski and pasture areas. The trail passes through a quiet high-country landscape; stay on established paths where possible, avoid disturbing spring flowers and fragile turf, and carry all rubbish back down. The route is best for walkers comfortable with sustained uphill movement at altitude who want a compact ridge outing or a first summit before deciding whether to continue. With a clear forecast, a self-sufficient plan and a confirmed return line, Pic de Setúria offers an uncomplicated introduction to the open highlands above La Massana without confusing it with the higher Pic dels Llacs nearby.
