Mirador del Bosc de les Allaus is a small natural viewpoint in the Cortals d’Encamp, beside the chapel of Sant Jaume dels Cortals. The outlook opens over Encamp and the valley of the Valira, while the surrounding pine woodland gives the stop a sheltered, quiet character. This is not a large built platform or a ticketed attraction. It is a brief landscape stop that works well alongside a drive through the Cortals or a visit to the chapel and the nearby footpaths.
The chapel provides the easiest landmark for finding the viewpoint. It stands in the forested area above Encamp and was inaugurated in 1999. Tourism information for the church places the viewpoint roughly 50 metres away; official Andorran hiking material also describes it as integrated into the forest near the chapel. The place name appears on OpenStreetMap as a viewpoint, but the physical experience is simpler than that label may suggest: expect a short approach from the chapel area rather than a staffed visitor facility. Exact path conditions and the availability of a clear view can vary with vegetation, weather and maintenance.
The best reason to stop is the elevated perspective over Encamp. From the forest edge, the settlement and valley are visible below, with mountain slopes framing the view. On a clear day, the outlook helps visitors understand how Encamp sits within the narrow central valley. The contrast between the wooded approach and the open view is part of its appeal. Take a moment to look for the shape of the valley and the routes leading back towards the parish centre, rather than expecting a panoramic platform with interpretive displays or a café.
Access is by road through the Cortals d’Encamp, on the CS-220, followed by a short walk near the chapel. The road climbs steeply out of Encamp and has bends; drive carefully and allow for local traffic, walkers and cyclists. Parking is not guaranteed directly at the viewpoint, so use designated stopping places and never block the roadway or chapel access. Some visitor descriptions place the viewpoint along the drive at about the fifth kilometre, but that measurement depends on the starting point and is not a route distance from Encamp’s centre. Follow a map pin for Sant Jaume dels Cortals and then local signs rather than stopping at an unsafe roadside location.
The viewpoint can be combined with a visit to Pont tibetà dels Cortals d’Encamp, a separate short suspension bridge lower in the Cortals area. Do not confuse that bridge with the much longer, ticketed Pont Tibetà de Canillo. The Cortals bridge and this viewpoint are distinct stops and are not one continuous attraction. A visit to the viewpoint does not require a bridge ticket, and a bridge visit does not guarantee that the viewpoint path or chapel is open. Check the bridge’s own access information if including it in the same outing.
Sant Jaume dels Cortals is itself worth noticing. The modern chapel was designed to sit within the woodland and has a distinctive separate bell structure. It is associated with local community gatherings, including the annual aplec. A nearby artwork known as Lloc Pagà is also described in local tourism material, so visitors can encounter more than just the overlook during a short stop. These nearby features should be treated as separate points of interest; do not assume that a chapel interior is always open or that a scheduled community event takes place during an ordinary visit.
There are no published fixed hours for the viewpoint and no admission fee is indicated. As an outdoor place, it is not staffed. The chapel’s visiting arrangements are separate and may require prior booking; old directory listings should not be taken as proof of current opening hours. If you are hoping to enter the chapel or attend a local event, contact Encamp tourism or Casa Cristo in advance. For the viewpoint itself, check the weather and daylight, particularly in winter when snow, ice or low cloud can make the narrow approach less comfortable.
Wear everyday walking shoes with grip and bring a light layer; the road and viewpoint are at elevation, and conditions can be cooler than in the town below. Families can make this a short stop, but supervise children near slopes and the road. The space is not a playground, and no barrier or accessible viewing deck has been verified. Visitors with limited mobility should check the final approach in person or ask local tourism staff before relying on step-free access. Keep to the path and avoid trampling the woodland edge.
Mirador del Bosc de les Allaus suits travellers who want an easy scenic pause while exploring the Cortals d’Encamp. It is especially appealing when paired with the chapel, a short walk or the nearby bridge, rather than as a destination requiring a long visit on its own. Come for the forest setting and the view across Encamp, allow a little time to find a safe place to stop, and keep expectations proportionate: this is a small natural balcony, not a fully equipped attraction.
