Great Mosque Of Tirana (Namazgjah Mosque)

Location
Tirana, Albania
Description

Namazgah Mosque, commonly known as the Tirana Great Mosque, is a mosque presently under construction in Tirana, Albania. When finished, it will be the Balkans’ biggest mosque.

The Namazgah Mosque is an icon of Tirana, Albania’s capital. When finished, it is anticipated to contain a library, cultural center, parking lot, location for Quran classes, exhibition hall, café, and conference room. More than 5000 worshipers might pray in the mosque at the same time.

The mosque is deemed vital since the city now has just eight mosques, down from 28 in 1967. Skanderbeg Square is densely packed with Muslim worshippers on Islamic holidays, while the Ottoman-era Ethem Bey mosque, which serves as Tirana’s major mosque, has a capacity of just 60 people. Friday sermons are difficult to deliver in the rain.

The mosque will have four 50-meter-tall minarets and a 30-meter-tall central dome. The mosque’s first floor will house a cultural center and other amenities. The mosque is being built on a 10,000-square-meter plot of land near Albania’s parliament building and will hold up to 4,500 people at a time.
