Description

A botanical garden, zoo, the Presidential Palace, a chapel, and a lake are all located in this Grand Park of Tirana.

The present shape of the Great Park of the Artificial Lake of Tirana (PMLAT) originates from 1957–1958. The region is initially recorded in the 1700s as a community of Vlachs who settled on the outskirts of Tirana. The shift in the urban layout coincided with the city’s designation as the capital in 1925, and the region was subjected to Armando Brazini’s regulatory plan for the new center, which was planned as a Flora and Fauna Park. The Autocephalous Church was granted permission to restore St. Procopius’ Church within. After the Italian master plan fell through, the PMLAT was conceived and completed with public participation in the late 1950s. PMLAT is the narrative of agronomists, architects, experts, landscapers, and, most importantly, its frequent visitors.

PMLAT is characterized by a mountainous massif with gently sloping slopes. The Artificial Lake’s water mirror is generated in the southern portion, and its expansion generates extremely modest and lovely coves and little peninsulas. Church of St. Procopius 1938, Memorial Pantheon of Brothers Frashri and Faik Konica, Amphitheater, Conversation Maks Velo, Gurra e Frashrllinjve, Debate monument, Monument to the Martyrs’Cemetery, German and British Soldiers’ Cemetery, and others are among the historical, artistic, socio-cultural, and memorial works in PMLAT. The Great Park of Tirana’s Artificial Lake has a current surface area of 1 569 337 m2, whereas the Artificial Lake has a surface area of 450 000 m2. PMLAT is the city of Tirana’s greatest mass of vegetation, which has an impact on the area’s scenery and microclimate.

There are about 32,958 hardwood and shrub components in the Great Lake Park, which are classified into:

  • 90 species of forest trees – 31 295 pieces,
  • 27 types of shrubs – 938 pieces,
  • 2 types of fruit trees – 95 pieces.

The Municipality of Tirana created the Parks and Recreation Agency (APR) Tirana in 2015 as a historic turning point in the field of parks, green crown, recreation, and leisure activities for people of all ages. APR has undertaken a number of projects to improve the quality of free services provided to citizens, including the Playground, Force Corners, Multisportal Fields, the reconstruction of the Open Theater, as well as conversations, decorative taps, benches, baskets, lighting, road network, and other initiatives.
