Vietnam Museum of Ethnology It is situated on a 43,799-square-metre (10,823-square-foot) lot in the Cau Giay District, approximately 8 kilometers from the city’s core. The Museum is affiliated with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, a government-sponsored academic institution. A second exhibition building dedicated to Southeast Asian cultures and peoples opened in 2013.

The museum has amassed 15,000 relics, 2,190 slides, 42,000 pictures, 237 audiotapes, 374 videotapes, and 25 CD-ROMs, which are divided into three primary display areas: the Bronze Drum area, the outdoor display area, and the Southeast Asia exhibition area. The exhibits are appropriately labeled in Vietnamese, French, and English and are appropriate for youngsters.

The Bronze Drum area is divided into nine primary areas, each including artefacts shown in glass cases that represent the ethnic groups of the Viet, Muong, Tho, Chut, Tav, Thai, Ka Dai, H’Mong-Dao, Tang, San Dui, Ngai, Mon-Khmer, Nam-Dao, Cham, Hoa, and Khmer.

The amazing objects presented here, such as clothing, utensils, and replicas of ceremonies, burials, and marriages, will astound visitors. Everything is displayed as a microcosm of the lives and culture of historic ethnic groups.

Vietnam Museum of Ethnology’s outdoor exhibit space is located in a spacious yard. There are several distinctive architectural styles among the ethnic groups, such as the stilt houses of the Ede and Tay people and the Pomu houses of the H’mong. In this place is also presented a rice pounder using the water of the Dao people.

The Southeast Asia exhibition area of the museum is designed to resemble a kite, a common symbol not only in Vietnam but also throughout the ASEAN region. The kite is a symbol of aspirations, freedom, and dreams. This area typically displays Southeast Asian culture, Indonesian glass artworks, and Asian and international artifacts. In addition, there are numerous educational programs, halls, cinema rooms, and multimedia rooms where tourists may enjoy cultural items from not only Vietnam but also other ASEAN nations.
