Description

The Lenin statue, created by Soviet sculptor Alexander Tyurenkov, was a gift from the Soviet Union to the people of Vietnam. The 5.2-meter (18-foot) bronze sculpture was first constructed in Thong Nhat Park in 1980 to commemorate Lenin’s 110th birthday. It was relocated to its current location in 1982, and the area was renamed Lenin Park, a modest but lovely green space in the heart of Hanoi.

The current Lenin Park is a playground popular with residents. Synchronized Tai Chi activities are performed here in the morning. Aerobics lessons for persons of all ages are given in the mornings. Because it is a popular playground for youngsters, the park becomes packed in the evening. Badminton players and soccer teams practice here as well.

The Lenin statue is located in the triangular Lenin Park, which is surrounded by palm trees. It is one of the few Lenin sculptures left in the globe and serves as a reminder of the USSR’s impact on international politics, particularly that of Vietnam, and the support it offered for revolutionary movements all over the world.

The statue is in front of the Museum of Military History, about a ten-minute walk from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Given that it is a public park, entry is free.
