How To Travel To Phu Quoc
Visitors from any nation (excluding Australia and the United States) coming in Phú Quốc by cruise ship or connecting airline are no longer need to get a visa for stays of up to 30 days. A valid passport with at least 45 days remaining is still required.
If coming by flight, a traveller must have a same-day connecting flight from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to Phú Quốc, reside in a transit area, and clear immigration at Phú Quốc in order to receive a visa exemption.
Get In - By Plane
There are around 17 flights each day between Phu Quoc International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), operated by Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines (tickets purchased through Vietnam Airlines), VietJet Air, and Bamboo Airways. These can be quite inexpensive (as low as US$33 one-way). Domestic flights operate between Hanoi, Haiphong, Vinh, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Can Tho, while international flights operate between Bangkok (Thai Vietjet Air), Seoul and Mumbai (VietJet Air), and Kuala Lumpur (AirAsia).
The new airport is around 11 kilometers from Dng ông. There are taxi and automobile rental applications (such as Grab) accessible.
If tickets are sold out, the following options are available:
- Keep an eye on the website and grab any published flight at the earliest opportunity. They should put on extra flights closer to the time.
- Ask any travel agents in Ho Chi Minh or Phú Quốc.
- Come to the airport on stand by.
Get In - By boat
There are hydrofoils operating between Phú Quốc and Rach Gia, Ha Tien, and Hon Chong. On the website of the boat operator SuperDong, the departure times and pricing may be obtained. The price of a boat ticket is 320,000 VND. The trip takes two and a half hours. There are several ticket offices around the port from which to purchase a ticket. The tour agents may inform you that the fast boats are filled, but if you go to the wharf where the boats depart, you may be able to get tickets from street vendors.

Large vehicle ferry (steel hulled, capacity 400 passengers, 300 bicycles, and 30 automobiles) departs at 08:20, takes 2 and a half hours, and costs 165,000 VND each car and 100,000 VND per bicycle.

The optimum time to go by sea is between late October and May, during the dry season, when seas are calm. During the monsoon season, waves are harsher (June – September). Depending on the season, there may be no cabs at Ph Quc’s airport, but there will likely be a few motorcycles. The two major towns are serviced by minibus, although tickets are offered on the boat and sell out before to arrival. Shortly after departing from Rach Gia, a woman carrying a pamphlet and shouting in Vietnamese will pass by. Stop her and purchase a ticket from her, since you will not have another opportunity. Price of 30,000 Dong. This ticket may be used with the minibuses at the head of the line to reach the city center of Dng ông. You may walk to the hotels, take a cab, or negotiate with a motorbike driver to take you to your destination. Your hotel can also arrange for transfers. In September 2011, there were three options for leaving the pier: taxi (210,000 Dong), mini-bus (three people) for 120,000 Dong, or moto-taxi (although it’s a lengthy trip on a poor road).
Be forewarned that the boat can become overcrowded and may have the regrettable stench of individuals with poor stomachs. During the low season, the ride is pleasant and easy, but during the peak season, it is frequently besieged by jarring waves; hotel employees may provide information on ocean conditions.
You can organize a transfer from the ferry terminal (port of Bai Vong) to your hotel. Outside the boat station, taxis and motorcyclists cluster and may transport you to the bus terminal (some 15 km out of town).
