How To Travel Around Nha Trang
Nha Trang has two main beaches; the large one is found to the south of Cai River and a smaller one to the north. The southern beach, which has Trn Ph avenue as its border, is preferred by many of those who visit Nha Trang. It’s a touristy area that starts from Nguyn Th Minh Khai Street and stretches to old airport. Diving schools, tour operators, western-style pubs, international restaurants and cafes are some of the most important facilities in this section of the beach where most foreign visitors stay. Sheraton, Novotel and InterContinental are some top-notch hotels such as those belonging to worldwide chains located near the center of Nha Trang’s beach. Following suit on this remaining coastline, infrastructure has been built with Vietnamese tourists as primary targets at heart throughout. A typical bustling Vietnamese city lies just blocks away from here in Nha Trang.
Get Around - By motorcycle
When traveling to beaches and tourist destinations out of the city, motorcycles are the most practical but least safe mode of transportation in Nha Trang, Vietnam and the rest of Vietnam. General tips for motorbike riding in Vietnam can be found here.
Get Around - By bus
Nha Trang’s city bus system is surprisingly a convenient choice for budget travelers. Each ride in the bus costs less than 50 US cents, they have AC, play Vietnam music and are painted in white and blue. The difficulty of finding information on buses in the city as well online or any other place is not matched by many simple bus lines. Also, buses tend to be less crowded outside peak hours. However, one should note that drivers and fare collectors have no knowledge of English; buses are always few resulting into short operating hours; and also the stops are not adjacent to each other. So before you use a bus make sure you have enough time and patience.
Bus number four is possibly most useful to tourists since it goes around major tourist spots (from Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street toward the old airport) such as Vinpearl cable car entrance, Hon Chong Promontory, Po Nagar Cham Towers, Nha Trang Cathedral, Cho Dam Market area among others. If you stay at any hotels located along the main tourist strip take a bus heading south from Nguyen Thien Thuat.
Bus number three will also go through the central tourist area before reaching Doclet Beach. This is one of the few ways that visitors who don’t have their own transportation can get to Doc Let because it takes about an hour and a half.
As for payment options when using bus services only cash will do. Do not try give big bills even though change can be given by fare collectors unlike some places where they cannot break any large denominations. As with other Vietnamese cities buses often stop halfway to pick up passengers if at all then they start moving again once somebody climbs on board through front door which might open while entering.Decide quickly whether or not you want to pay your fare immediately after getting on: instead find somewhere so that you can sit or wait until it comes along beside you then pay back its fare collector.
Get Around - On foot
Walking in Nha Trang is not a walk in the park even though it is not as perilous as in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Nearly all zebras are rendered useless because they never stop cars for any pedestrians to cross the road, and most of them are rarely obeyed traffic lights in the city. Due to motorcycles parked on sidewalks; stalls, cafes and dining tables occupying much of it, people cannot walk along 80% of pavements but have to use roads instead.
Apart from a few beautiful places where one can take a stroll, there is also a kind of seaside promenade located just next to the coast. It has well-maintained surroundings with gardens and parks that are interspersed with various facilities like monuments and public spaces; however motorbike parking bays are sometimes located within it.
Get Around - By taxi
If you are traveling through Nha Trang, it is advisable to go for Vinasun or Mai Linh taxis with their strict adherence to the meter and good reputation. Thus, one ought not to pay more than a few tens of thousands of dong when traveling within Nha Trang. Yet, taking a taxi outside Nha Trang can cost up to several hundred thousand dongs even without mentioning the fare needed for waiting of the driver until you get back to town.
Get Around - By cyclo
Hiring a cyclo-driver for the day is a lovely way to view the sights. With a tip, this costs roughly USD $15. The post office, the city’s top attractions, and my pick of eateries from 8:00 to 19:00. English proficiency could be lacking. The driver will deter the touts, which is a huge plus!
