How To Travel Around Con Dao
- The village of Con Son is small, flat, and easily traversable on foot. Due to the harsh light and lack of shade on the streets, morning and evening are the best times for walking.
- It is simple to rent motorcycles from major hotels, and there is less traffic. There has been a significant increase in the number of motorcycles available for rental. Hotels often charge a premium for the same bicycles that are available for rent in the surrounding area.
- On the island, there is just one gas station, which is only open from 07:00 to 10:30 and 14:00 to 16:00. As in the rest of Vietnam, be careful to purchase a bike with a full tank of gas, as there is none for sale on the streets. They are enjoyable to ride but cumbersome to maneuver.
- Since many of the places to visit demand cycling up hills, a manual gear bicycle will serve you better. Con Dao is a friendly spot to learn how to ride a geared bicycle due to its low volume of traffic and easy terrain.
- You may be able to arrange for your hotel to transport you for a price, often approximately US$70 per day for car and driver, excluding hotel markup.
- There are numerous motorcycle taxis in Con Son Village. As in the rest of Vietnam, the majority of these men are honest and hardworking, but a minority are dishonest.
- It is prohibited to operate a motorized vehicle without a helmet and a valid Vietnamese driver’s license. Mr. Tan, the local police officer, enjoys increasing his salary at the cost of tourists without helmets. Riding without a helmet is illegal and stupid, especially if you lack proper travel insurance, given the rudimentary medical care accessible here. Paid in advance, an evacuation to Bangkok costs $30,000 USD. This amount of money cannot be raised on the island. Travel without adequate coverage at your own risk!
