The decisive limitation is that the beach sits very close to active aviation and exposed sea conditions, so visitors should follow safety boundaries and should never move into restricted areas for a photograph.

The beach is widely recognized for clear water, soft golden sand and a forested setting. Con Dao’s tourism authority updated its visitor guide in 2025 and continued to promote Dam Trau as one of the island’s signature natural attractions. The same guide notes that it was included in Travel + Leisure’s 2021 list of 25 notable beaches worldwide. That ranking is background rather than a current quality score; the more useful planning facts are the beach’s location, ordinary swimming use, road access and environmental rules.

Aircraft spotting is the feature that makes Dam Trau different from the island’s other beaches. Planes approach over the coast before landing at Con Dao Airport, and the official destination guide explicitly identifies this as part of the visitor experience. Photography should be done from lawful public areas only. Flight schedules change, there is no guarantee of a low approach during a short visit, and getting dangerously close to the runway or ignoring local staff for a picture is not justified.

Swimming and shoreline walking are the core activities. The official guide also mentions team-building and relaxing under casuarina shade, while a smaller, quieter beach can be reached on foot nearby. Conditions should be judged on arrival. High wind, tide and rougher water can reduce safe swimming, and the tourism authority specifically tells visitors to follow bathing-safety rules. Families should keep children in the visibly used bathing zone rather than spreading out along isolated edges.

The current published entrance fee is 3,000 VND per person. Because fees can change, the amount should be rechecked locally rather than treated as permanent.
