West Mall in Sofia, Bulgaria

Mega Mall Sofia became West Mall in March 2025.

West Mall is the current name of the shopping center at 15 Tsaritsa Yoanna Boulevard in western Sofia that operated for years as Mega Mall Sofia. The center officially completed the name change in March 2025 after a substantial renovation and repositioning, so travelers using older maps, articles, or saved links may still encounter the former name. It now functions as a modern neighborhood and regional shopping center for Lyulin and surrounding districts, with retail, restaurants, a supermarket, cinema, services, and frequent family events. The crucial planning point is simple: search for West Mall, not Mega Mall, even though both names refer to the same property.

The rebrand was more than a sign change. West Mall’s official announcement described a major transformation of the shopping environment, and the current site lists a broad range of categories including fashion, accessories, jewelry, children’s goods, entertainment, health and beauty, shoes, sports goods, books and gifts, home goods, electronics, supermarkets, banks, and services. Current named tenants and attractions include Kino Arena and a mix of international and Bulgarian retail and food brands. That breadth makes it a practical half-day option for people staying in western Sofia, especially when weather makes outdoor plans less attractive.

Entertainment is now a meaningful part of the center. The official site runs a current cinema programme, weekend children’s events, workshops, concerts, promotions, and recurring puppet theatre. This is useful for families because a visit can combine errands with an activity, but events should be checked by date rather than assumed to happen every weekend in the same form. The cinema also keeps different hours from the retail center, so a late film does not mean ordinary shops remain open just as late.

The mall’s general shopping hours are currently 10:00–21:00 every day. Its official contacts page separately lists restaurants until 22:00, the Billa supermarket from 07:30 to 21:00, and different cinema schedules for weekdays and weekends. That separation is important when planning an early grocery stop or a late meal. Individual tenants can still keep exceptions, particularly on holidays, so use the mall schedule as the baseline and confirm a specific business if it is essential.

Access is one of West Mall’s strongest advantages. The official site says Metro Line 1 reaches Zapaden Park station and that there is a direct indoor connection between the station and the mall. Tram 8 and bus 310 are also listed. Drivers have access to hundreds of parking spaces spread across three parking levels; the mall’s current about page states that the property has more than 600 spaces and notes a current free-parking period before charges apply. Because parking rules can change, check the latest tariff before leaving the car for a long cinema or restaurant visit.

There is no admission fee. Shopping, dining, cinema tickets, entertainment, and services are priced separately. For visitors comparing Sofia malls, the choice should be based on location and purpose rather than a claim that one center is universally “best.” West Mall is especially convenient for Lyulin, Krasna Polyana, Moderno Predgradie, and other western districts, and its direct metro connection reduces the friction of reaching it from the center. Travelers staying on the opposite side of Sofia may have equally good options closer to their accommodation.

Allow one to three hours for a normal visit, depending on whether you are shopping, eating, or seeing a film. A targeted errand can be much quicker; a cinema visit naturally extends the stay. The mall’s current interactive categories and event listings make it easy to decide in advance whether the brands or activities you want are present. That is preferable to relying on pre-2025 Mega Mall directories, which may no longer reflect the tenant mix after the renovation.

The mall presents itself as a family-oriented social space as well as a retail center, and the current event calendar supports that positioning. Visitors should still distinguish marketing language from practical facts: crowds, noise, and event activity vary by day. Weekends with children’s programming or promotions can be busier, while weekday mornings are usually more suited to straightforward errands. If you want a quieter shopping trip, checking the events page can be as useful as checking opening hours.

A detailed official accessibility statement was not found in the pages reviewed, although the center has multiple shopping levels, parking levels, and a direct indoor metro connection. Visitors with specific mobility requirements should contact West Mall to confirm lift routes, accessible parking, toilets, and the best entrance. Large modern shopping centers often provide such facilities, but they should not be promised without explicit evidence.

For migration purposes, the old Mega Mall Sofia identity should not be treated as a separate active venue. It is the same shopping center under its current West Mall name. That continuity is useful for travelers who remember the older brand, but current planning should follow West Mall’s website, hours, tenant list, and transport information. The rebrand is now established enough that the current cinema, events, and store ecosystem all use West Mall, making the new name the accurate public identity for this entity.
