The Monument to the Soviet Army (Bulgarian: Pametnik na Savetskiya voin – Kostnitsa) is a monument in Sofia, Bulgaria. There is a vast park around the monument and its surroundings. It is a popular gathering area for young people. The monument is situated on Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard, close to Orlov Most and Sofia University. It depicts a Soviet Army soldier as a liberation warrior, flanked by a Bulgarian mother carrying her infant and a Bulgarian guy. Other, minor sculptural composition components of the memorial complex surrounding the main monument, such as the group of soldiers, have been utilized as a canvas by political artists on several occasions. The monument was created in 1954 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Bulgaria’s liberation by the Soviet Army, which is the popular Russian interpretation of the country’s complicated military history during World War II.
