Crystal Garden
Description
The lawn in front of ‘Crystal,’ situated on the opposite corner of the Russian church, is a favorite spot for setting informal appointments.
Although the Crystal cafe-bar, after which the park was called, no longer exists, the garden is still connected with the spontaneously created open-air cultural centre, which was recognized until recently as a gathering place for dissident authors, poets, singers, painters, and performers.
A memorial honoring Stefan Stambolov was erected in the same garden, not far from the site of his assassination; Stambolov is regarded as one of the most extraordinary Bulgarian leaders and statesmen of all time, serving as Prime Minister of Bulgaria from 1887 to 1894.
