Antiques Market

An informal flea market beside the Alexander Nevski Church in Sofia caters to visitors visiting the cathedral. There are many vintage items to be discovered, such as ancient cameras, coins and medals, hand knitted socks, Russian lacquered dolls, jewelry cases, and more. Prices vary and are determined by the trader’s judgment of the buyer, therefore bargaining is feasible and, in many situations, required.
A daily antique market is held on the small corridor off ploshtad Aleksandar Nevski that leads up to Hram-pametnik Aleksander Nevski. Wind-up phonograph records, knives, Russian military helmets, communist memorabilia (the authenticity of which is doubtful), vintage violins, silver jewellery, religious icon paintings, and a plethora of bric-a-brac adorn the two rows of tables. Women frequently sell traditional textiles and carpets on the opposite side of the chapel. Prices rise if the possible buyer is from another country, but participate in the fun and try negotiating.
