The monument to the renowned Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin is situated in the yard of the Russian church “St. Nikolay the Miracle Worker” in the heart of Sofia and was created by the Russian artist Vyachevlav Kluikov and the Bulgarian architect Svetoslav Konstantinov. On the 202nd anniversary of the poet’s birth, it was formally unveiled on June 6, 2001.
Despite its small size, the monument is extraordinarily beautiful and manages to express all of the tremors and tortures that are so distinctive of Pushkin and his writings in a unique manner. The poet seems to be staring far into the future and is detached from all little and major difficulties. The location of the monument adds to its overall effect, and for this reason, is a must-see for everyone who is a fan of Evgeny Onegin or any of Pushkin’s heroes.
