History

The stadium, which was built in 1923 for AS-23, was known as Athletic Park until 1944, when AS-23 united with two other teams to become Chavdar Sofia. From 1944 to 1948, it was known as Chavdar Stadium. Between 1948 to 1990, it was known as the People’s Army Stadium, and since 1990, it has been known as the Balgarska Armia Stadium. The present edifice was erected on the original grounds of AS-23 by architect Anton Karavelov between 1965 and 1967. It was rebuilt again in 1982, this time with the addition of floodlights.

The stadium was outfitted with a new Dynacord surround sound system capable of 48 kilowatts and 107 decibels in 2000. The electric lighting is likewise of the most recent generation, with 2100 lux illuminating the field.
