Schruns, a little Austrian town, welcomed its first holiday visitors in 1870, so initiating its development into a well-known tourist destination. Established in 1898 with the intention of advertising the new company, the Traffic and Beautification Organization

There were 362,888 overnight visits in 2001/02 overall. The winter and summer seasons split these visits; the ratio for winter stays was 61.3% and for summer stays was 38.7%.
There were 311,707 overnight visits overall in 2017, with a ratio of 61.6% in winter and 38.4% in summer. Of the total, commercial beds accounted for 57.8%; private beds made up 36.6%. Remaining 5.6% were categorized as “others.” Though the ratio between winter and summer stayed constant at 62% to 38%, the percentage of private beds dropped noticeably.

With a population of roughly 3900, Schruns, an Austrian town, boasts a rich history going back to the early 1900s. With 139 commercial companies in 2003, the town saw a notable population rise during the First World War. The town developed in great part under the influence of tourism.
Built in 1973, the Illwerke office building on Batloggstrace was moved to Rodund in 1976 and replaced by the new Illwerkezentrum Montafon (IZM). The Montafon music school, nursing association, Mobile Help Aussermontafon, and library among other municipal and regional institutions occupy the new building. Established in 2005, the “Open Youth Work Montafon” group helped to form the JAM young club.
Built in 1971, the Alpenbad Montafon in Schruns/Tschagguns is still in use today; the new football pitch on Wagenweg was finished in 1995. Operating under the Liebenau Foundation, the town also boasts a new health and social center at Ausserlitz. Part of the VAMED group, the Montafon Rehabilitation Clinic provides cardiology, orthopedic, and neurology rehabilitation treatments.
History Of Schruns
Originally Sankt Jossen, Schruns has changed its name several times over its existence. It joined Austria in 1420 and was under Bartholomäberg’s rule. In 1579 the ecclesiastical community gained its freedom. During the Thirty Years’ War, plagues, and wars Schruns encountered difficulties.
It received its own court and the authority to host public markets in 1775. A flood seriously damaged the municipality in 1910. Ernest Hemingway lived in Schruns between 1925 and 1926; it was formally named a market community in 1928. Following World War II, Schruns, a German Reich territory from 1938 to 1945, saw notable economic and tourist expansion. Established were the Montafon Ski Club and a secondary school, and the area became known for alpine ski world cup events.
In Schruns, avalanches and snow slides claimed either 23 or 112 lives in 1954. Schruns was awarded “Place of Respect” in 2014 for housing and tending to asylum seekers. The Montafon district court closed in 2017; birth balance and migration dropped in the area.

Built in 1886, the Mayer family’s loden factory underwent modernizing changes including a steam and shower bath in its basement.
