On the slopes
The nightlife in Sankt Anton am Arlberg starts right away when the ski lifts stop running and the skiers come down the mountain. The resort provides many après-ski bars and huts where visitors may enjoy food, drinks, and music while mingling with other skiers and residents. The most popular après-ski sites in Sankt Anton am Arlberg are these:
- The Mooserwirt: Renowned for selling the most beer per unit area among all the bars in Austria, the Mooserwirt is the apres ski bar in St Anton. Lunch is a preferred meal since the cuisine is outstanding and the serving sizes are rather large. Still, it’s advisable to book a reservation since it usually suffers from notable crowding during busy times. Beginning indoors at 3 p.m., the real Mooserwirt Experience is characterized by the “Final Countdown,” closing the shutters, starting the light show, and mass influx of people. The Mooserwirt soon gets packed with skiers mostly listening to German music indulging in drinking, dancing, and singing. By 4 p.m., the large outdoor terrace becomes busy, but it also provides a lot of fun and a must-do vacation activity. Beside the bar, the recently built Mooser hotel stands. Renowned designers created a sophisticated boutique hotel here, and its intended use is not for partying. The phone is +43 (0) 5446 3588.
- The Krazy Kanguruh: Skiing down from Gampen will easily allow one to access the higher elevation Krazy Kanguruh. Seasonal workers especially like it, and it is packed with energetic partygoers. Established in 1974 by former Swedish ski athlete Gunnar Munthe, the Krazy Kanguruh is well-known for its energetic apres ski experience, which features a sun terrace providing beer and a festive atmosphere from 3 p.m. until well past midnight. Currently running the Krazy Kanguruh is Mario Matt, a local ski competitor. Phone number: +43 (0) 5446 2633. Along with a nice sun terrace, Taps, next to the Krazy Kanguruh, provides a more peaceful environment while yet keeping a high degree of activity. Phone number: +43 (0) 5446 2628.
- Griabli: Direct above the Mooserwirt and under the Krazy Kanguruh, Griabli is a traditional alpine restaurant and bar. A talented rock, soul, and blues band makes regular live performances. Though not as busy as its more vibrant surrounding venues, the establishment is humming. Popular après-ski bar draws customers daily from about 3:30 p.m. The phone is +43 (0) 5446 3673.
- The Heustadl: The Heustadl is at the start of the blue run (1) you come across following a ski down from the Zammermossbahn Chairlift. About one hundred meters from Sennhutte (on the right), Heustadl is a vibrant venue on the left side of the ski slope. Its large sun terrace and nice sound system—which mostly plays German music—sometimes accompanied by live events. Comprising seating on both the top and bottom levels, the inside is designed to resemble a vintage hay loft. The phone is +43 5446 302.
- Sennhutte: This is a rather famous alpine refuge with a large sun deck and mostly German-speaking customers. It is a usually chosen choice for classic Austrian apres ski trips. Sennhutte is subtly placed, to the right of the main slope running from the base of the Zammermoosbahn chairlift to St Anton. Still, the rooftop is clearly visible right off the main road. DJ Didi Diesel provides a fun experience with music and entertainment even though he lacks German language ability. Sennhutte’s contact details consist as follows: Tel: +43 0 5446 2048.
