Snowbombing
Snowbombing is the celebration for you if you love music and snow. Usually in April, the snow bombings take place during the last week of the ski season and feature some of the best-known musicians in the area. On the city’s stages, expect musicians including Liam Gallagher, Craig David, Pendulum, Dizzee Rascal and High Contrast. Snowbombing is both a winter sports event and a musical event. Participating in downhill, freeride and freestyle events, attending master classes, sharing your talents with other aficionados and basking in the sun for six days will ensure you have fun. The party heads to nightclubs and bars, including Racket Club, Arena and Europahaus, after dark. Dancing until morning to the beats of famous DJs is possible. You can then retire to your room and prepare for another day on the slopes. Around 6,000 people visit Snowbombing each year, mainly from the UK; it is a unique and unforgettable event.
Rise&Fall
Rise&Fall is the event you should choose if you want something more demanding and exciting. Combining four different disciplines: skiing, paragliding, mountain biking and snowboarding or alpine skiing, Rise&Fall is an annual relay race. Beginning with a long ski descent, the race continues with a paragliding flight to the precise location of the ski lift. Participants then have to ride a mountain bike on an exciting course. Overcoming the slope on a snowboard or alpine ski finally arrives. Rise & Fall challenges speed, endurance and cooperation. Professional and amateur athletes attract more and more competitors to the event each year. You can still enjoy the grand opening ceremony and support the teams even if you don’t want to compete. On the courses, some local freestyle and downhill competitions are also scheduled throughout the year.
Zillertaler Steinbockmarsch
Zillertaler Steinbockmarsch is for you if you want a more sober and picturesque event. For fifty years, the Zillertaler Steinbockmarsch, a thirty-kilometer climb in the Alps, has existed. Climbing 1,871 meters and descending 1,613 meters does not make this a simple climb. Therefore, only experienced hikers are qualified to participate in this event. Yet you’ll be treated to the breathtaking splendor of the Alps on the road. The event is symbolized by the rare Alpine ibex, which you will also have the opportunity to see. If you are a novice, you can also participate in the Natural Park Hiking Day with two easier routes, one of five kilometers and one of thirteen kilometers.
Altitude Comedy Festival
The week-long Altitude Comedy Festival brings some of the best comedians from the UK and beyond to Mayrhofen. From stand-up and improv to cabaret and musical comedy, the festival falls in March and features a range of events. Former players include John Bishop, Jimmy Carr, Katherine Ryan, Eddie Izzard and Bill Bailey. In addition to après-ski events and a gala evening, the Altitude Comedy Festival also organizes skiing and snowboarding sessions.
Mayrhofen Ultraks
The September Mayrhofen Ultraks trail event offers three courses for runners of all abilities: the short (14.1 km), medium (30.1 km) and long (49.8 km). The courses wind on scenic trails through the Zillertal Alps, past mountains, forests and alpine farms. Besides a children’s race, a vertical race and a relay race, the event also includes part of the Ultraks series, Mayrhofen Ultraks organizes similar events in Italy, France and Switzerland.
Christmas Market
Celebrated in a traditional and authentic way, Mayrhofen Advent marks the four-week Advent period leading up to Christmas. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and pine trees, it takes place in the picturesque forest festival area of Scheuling Forest. With gentle festive tunes, open flames and handcrafted decorations, the Forest Festival space is transformed into a magical place of peace and meditation.
Mayrhofen Advent is not your usual Christmas market, where you can buy mass-produced items and cheap souvenirs. Rather, it’s a place where you can enjoy locally produced artisanal goods, including cheese, honey, schnapps and handicaps created by nearby farms and artists. While warming up by a cozy fire, you can also treat yourself to some great food and drinks, including roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and hot chocolate.
