Zum Schwarzen Kameel (Black Kameel)

The cuisine of the Black Camel is, how could it be otherwise, deeply rooted in the Viennese tradition. For us, this means bringing the classics to the plate as perfectly as possible, carefully brought up to date. You can enjoy them in the ambience of the most beautiful Viennese Art Nouveau. From the depths of our wine cellar we like to fetch one of our 350 wines, if it is not to be by the glass. The menu changes seasonally and daily menus are offered for lunch and dinner. Our kitchen is open from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. Our two large menus can be ordered until 19:30.

“Caves Romains” – The cellar of the Black Camel takes its name from the bricks that come from the Roman camp of Vindobona. In the early baroque period, when our cellar was built, the workers walled the old stones they had found into the vaults. Our former K&K wine shop comprises three mighty and constantly cool floors, where it used to be customary to buy the wine selection by the barrel from the winegrowers, and to have them mature and bottled in their own cellar. Today, we store Austrian and international top wines and a handful of selected selected wines. You can read about the selection in our wine list. Selected wines can also be found in our webshop.

The visual jewel of our patisserie is the elegant black display case by Josef Hoffmann, which occupies its prominent place in the middle of our bar. It is full of Esterhazy slices, Parisian lace, lime roulades, fruit dipped in chocolate and much more, which comes fresh from our kitchen every day. The house speciality is certainly our sweet Chamelle glasses with pure chocolate, Sacher style, apple strudel and other seasonal varieties. Biscuits, sweet and savoury nibbles, with a little historical wink such as the Sisi rusks, are also part of the portfolio for those with a sweet tooth, such as our handmade chocolates with Wachau apricots, with whole hazelnuts, caramelised walnuts in milk chocolate or dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts.

The heart of the Black Camel is the “Schwemme”, i.e. its bar. A meeting place for people of all stripes or a retreat for relaxed idleness, open seven days a week from early in the morning until late at night. Business people meet here for a business breakfast, friends for lunch, work colleagues for an after-work drink and lovers for a rendezvous. You can enjoy a melange or a spritzten, a Seidl, an Achterl, an elegant glass of champagne and treat yourself to one of the delicious rolls with red cabbage, ham or salmon caviar.
