Zoo Linz

Zoo Linz is a zoo located in the Upper Austrian state capital of Linz. Zoo Linz is located at the foot of the Pöstlingberg, a hill that overlooks the city and offers a stunning view. You can reach the zoo by car, bus, or even by taking the Pöstlingbergbahn, a historic tram that runs from the city center to the top of the hill.

Zoo Linz was founded in 1980 with the slogan “European animals, domestic animals, and their archetypes.” The zoo aims to showcase the diversity of animal life in Europe and beyond, as well as the relationship between humans and animals. The zoo covers an area of around 5.5 hectares, where approximately 650 animals from approximately 110 different species live. Some of the animals you can see at Zoo Linz are alpacas, red pandas, ostriches, rheas, emus, coatis, meerkats, and several bird species. The zoo also has a warm tropical abode, where you can find caimans, enormous snakes, and little monkeys.

Zoo Linz attracts around 145,000 visitors every year, who come to enjoy the animal and natural encounters, as well as the relaxing areas. The zoo offers a variety of activities and programs for both children and adults, such as guided tours, workshops, birthday parties, and special events. You can also visit the zoo shop, the café, or the playground.

One of the highlights of Zoo Linz is the open-air enclosures, where you can observe the animals in their natural-like environments. You can see meerkats, zebras, red pandas, parrots, kangaroos, and many more animals roaming freely or resting in their shelters. You can also watch the feeding times and learn more about the animals’ behaviors and diets.

Another attraction of Zoo Linz is the hothouse, where you can experience the warmth and humidity of the tropics. Here you can see caimans, constrictors, and monkeys, as well as exotic plants and flowers. You can also visit the biodiversity area, where you can discover the amazing diversity of life on Earth. You can see poison dart frogs, zebra finches, monitor lizards, and tarantulas, among other creatures.

If you want to have a more interactive experience, you can visit the domestic animal park, where you can pet and feed some of the animals. This section features native and exotic kinds of domestic farm animals, such as sheep, goats, pigs, cows, horses, donkeys, and camels. You can also visit the rabbit tunnel, where you can crawl through a burrow and see the rabbits up close.

Zoo Linz is a place where you can have fun and learn at the same time. You can explore the different habitats and animals, as well as their conservation status and threats. You can also enjoy the panoramic view of the city and the surrounding nature. Zoo Linz is open all year round, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in winter and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in summer. The admission fee is 9 euros for adults, 6 euros for children, and 20 euros for families.
