Winter Sports Museum Haus im Ennstal

A collection of winter sports equipment was offered for sale in the town of Haus im Ennstal in 1995.A majority decision of the municipal council founded the museum at the same time.The historic granary (tithe granary) in Haus was converted into a museum and library.The winter sports museum was officially opened on December 8, 1999.

The history of winter sports is presented on approximately 300m2 of two stories, with a focus on the Haus area.The upper level portrays the growth of skis and ski boots, two of the most common items used in winter activities.

Other winter activities, as well as their value to the home, are also explored.It is astonishing to realize that Haus used to be a bobsled track.Other winter sports equipment is also available, such as ice sticks, toboggans, and ice skates.

Finally, a video of the biggest Austrian mountain rescue service center, Ortsstelle Haus, which not only helps hikers and climbers in emergency situations, but also winter sports fans, is shown.

The Winter Sports Museum Haus covers the history of winter sports, which are still popular in the region today, from 1900 to the present in easily created large dioramas.
