Wiener Neustadt Water Tower

The Wiener Neustädter Wasserturm is located on the Südtiroler Platz in Wiener Neustadt.

The water tower is a city icon that can be seen from afar. It is also an important industrial monument and was once part of the Kaiser Franz Joseph water pipeline.

From 1902 to 1903, an application and consent were obtained for a municipal deep spring water pipeline, which was erected beginning in 1909 by the business C. Korte and Co.The requisite water tower was built on behalf of this enterprise by master builder Anton Koblischek between 1909 and 1910, according to drawings by architects Siegfried Theiss and Hans Jaksch. The water tower went into service on December 13, 1910.

The tower tapers upwards from a circular base. The tower shaft is partially windowed and separated by pilaster strips. The polygonal container housing is carried by a bracket rim and is covered by a steep mansard-style tented roof.

The water tower was partially destroyed during WWII and rebuilt in 1950-1951, with new windows.

The water tower is still part of the water supply, but it no longer acts as a storage tank; instead, it serves as a control tank from which the well pumps are turned on and off.Due to the reservoir’s height, the water tower can assure supply for a limited time in the event of a power outage.
