History

Shopping City Süd, also known as SCS, was established in 1976 by Hans Dujsik in the municipality of Vösendorf, which is located a few kilometers south of the city limits of Vienna. The cost of land was lower there compared to the city. The massive shopping temple, which was a groundbreaking addition to Austria upon its opening, was intentionally designed to accommodate car traffic from its inception.

Over the years, the SCS has undergone multiple expansions, resulting in its current composition, which includes the following components:

  • SCS Core Area (1976)
  • SCS expansion area (1988) directly south of the core area.
  • Today, the core area and the expansion area are divided into three sections, which are named after the leading colors on the center plan. From north to south: Coral Mall (red), Garden Mall (green), Water Mall (blue).
  • Ikea (1977) – originally opened well south of the core area and not part of the SCS, Ikea was connected in 1988 with the expansion of the SCS and in 1994 with the LightMall and is now also part of the SCS. Leading colour: blue
  • Motor-City (1996) and Sale-City-Süd (2006): in the northern area of the site, separated from the main complex by the feeder road
  • Light Mall, opened as a multiplex (1994) – this part of the SCS is located in the municipal area of Wiener Neudorf, but is connected to the core area via Ikea. In addition to shopping, the Light Mall also focuses on gastronomy and entertainment, including a disco, a cinema centre and a billiard café. Leading colour: yellow.
