The Wertheimsteinpark is a 62,500-square-meter park in the Vienna suburb of Oberdöbling on a natural slope to the Danube Canal.
The park’s relief is well articulated. It runs east of Döblinger Hauptstrasse and declines sharply to Heiligenstädter Strasse (close to the Danube Canal) and the suburban line, or Krottenbachtal.Between 1893 and 1930, the Krottenbach was vaulted from Salmannsdorf to the Danube Canal. The only item left in the park is a tiny pond with a drainage canal that is still supplied by natural springs.
Many antique and unusual flora may be found in the park.A garden for the blind was formerly set out in one section. In addition to the founder’s memorial stone, there is a bust of the writer Ferdinand von Saar, a long-time friend of the Wertheimstein family, erected in 1914 and designed by Franz Seifert, a monument erected in 1924 for the poet Franz Keim, and a bust of Julius Schlegel, the savior of Montecassino’s artistic treasures, erected in 1975.
