Weinbau Museum Salzburg

The Weinbau Museum Salzburg [Salzburg viniculture museum] is located in the Georgsturm on the Mönchsberg and exhibits the history of viniculture in Salzburg. A spindle press, vintage equipment, and display boards highlight the laborious cultivation and significance of scouts.

Although Salzburg is recognized as Austria’s beer capital, wine production has a long history dating back to Roman times. Despite the difficulties of production, determined winegrowers create Salzburg treasures in limited quantities.

The Historic Viniculture project was initiated in 2005 at the request of the town by former scout leaders and scout parents and will be expanded in 2021 to include the Viniculture Museum in the Georgsturm with a model vineyard. Apart from the growth of viniculture in Salzburg, the major focus was on the presentation of today’s seven winegrowing firms in the Province of Salzburg.

The Boy Scouts began cultivating grapevines in the Paris-Lodron Zwinger, a former defensive annexe of Hohensalzburg Fortress, in 2008. As a result, an early red Veltliner is produced. Mönchsberg Sparkling Concord, cultivated on the neighboring Rainberg, has been available since 2015. The wines are available for tasting in select restaurants and for purchase at the Museum.
