WasserSpiegel

The water museum on the Mönchsberg is a multimedia exploration tour on the history and processing of drinking water in Salzburg.

The WasserSpiegel is a portion of the Mönchsberg raised reservoir, which has a capacity of 25,000 m3 and is an essential element of Salzburg’s water supply. This interactive museum over 500 square meters gives information on the past and current of water supply, its origin, quality, and the essential equipment. The many stations for experimenting, water tasting, and hundreds of exhibits provide an exciting experience.

The Water Museum, created in 1998 and administered by Salzburg AG Tourismus, is housed in the converted chambers of a 1929 abandoned drinking water reservoir. The WasserSpiegel is available to the public on weekends; the entry is located along the route between the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Museum of Modern Art, beside the bird display board. The facility maintains a constant room temperature of 12 degrees, therefore a pullover or jacket is advised.
