Waagplatz is an uneven plaza in Salzburg’s old town that was initially designed as the city’s oldest marketplace and court square. The square was utilized as a hay market in the 15th century (together with the east end of the Judengasse) and as a bread market between 1430 and 1650, thus the name Alter Brodmarkt.

Waagplatz becomes narrower to the north-west and joins with Judengasse.Waaplatz borders the considerably bigger Mozartplatz to the east. The town homes around the Waagplatz originate from the Middle Ages.

The Michaelskirche is next door, and the historic Höllbräu may be seen from the Judengasse.Today, the Kuk Restaurant dominates the area adjacent to the modest church, and there is also a historic vaulted basement – called Freysauffkeller – that is definitely worth visiting (named after the Freysauff family), which can accommodate 130 people.
