Vienna Clock Museum

Vienna Clock Museum is housed in one of Vienna’s oldest buildings, the Palais Obizzi (also known as the Harp House), in the city’s first district, Inner City.

Around 700 clocks are shown in 19 rooms spread across three levels, charting the evolution of clock technology from the 15th century.A tower clock from the first half of the 15th century is one of the earliest displays.Another significant exhibit is the clock tower of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, which was erected in 1699 by Joachim Oberkircher; the astrological and astronomical grandfather clock is also from St. Stephen’s Cathedral.David Ruetschmann’s astronomical art clock is a significant 18th-century piece.Pocket watches from French and Swiss factories, such as Ferdinand Berthoud, Abraham Louis Breguet, and Bordier, are on display in the museum.A grandfather clock from the collection of the actress and confidante of Emperor Franz Joseph I, Katharina Schratt, is featured in her home in Bad Ischl, the royal summer retreat. The cannon clock, in which the cannon acts as the housing and the clockwork is housed in a wheel, is a unique feature. In the depot, another 3000 to 4000 watches are preserved.
