Velden Castle is situated on the western shore of Lake Wörthersee in the municipality of Velden am Wörther See, which is located in Carinthia.
The palace building is quite grand, featuring a rectangular floor plan and four impressive pentagonal towers positioned at the corners. Each tower is adorned with a unique hooded roof and a lantern, adding to the overall striking appearance of the palace. The eastern front of the building, which faces the lake, features three storeys with arches in front of the windows and doors on the ground floor. Above, there are continuous balconies. On the other hand, the western front, which faces the park and is positioned at a higher elevation, has only two storeys. The hipped roof features dormers that lead to two attic floors. To the north of the main building, there is a medium-sized building that extends further. It is also painted in the same Schönbrunn yellow color. On the western side, there is a longer building that matches the same color. Between these two buildings, you will find the old and rustic north portal. It is marked with the year 1603 and is flanked by banded pilasters.Above, positioned between two obelisks, there is an essay featuring the coat of arms of Bartholomäus Khevenhüller and his three wives. There is a connecting passage that leads from the north portal to the north-west tower. The biforen windows above the round-arched west portal are another remaining feature from the time of construction.
Today, the castle park is encompassed by a new U-shaped building that spans two stories. This building surrounds the park, including its west wing, on the north, west, and south sides. The reception used to be located inside the north portal, but it has now been relocated to the new building directly in front of it.
To the south of the complex lies the Schloßteich, which comprises two pools dedicated to fish farming. The Schloßteich drains into Lake Wörthersee and is supplied with water from the Bäckerteich, located 500 meters to the west.
The Schlosshotel features a private lido that includes a restaurant and a jetty.
In 2011, Hypo Alpe Adria sold it to Amisola Immobilien AG, which is owned by Karl Wlaschek.Since 2012, the hotel has been under the management of the Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group. In 2013, a state-of-the-art spa area measuring 3,600 m² was added to the hotel complex. The hotel is owned by The Leading Hotels of the World, a hotel group. The history of Hotel Schloss Velden was published in 2009 by The Most Famous Hotels in the World under the title “Hotel Schloss Velden”.
