The hospital’s cornerstone was placed on January 18, 1894.Eugen Sehnal, a Viennese construction officer, planned the structure, and on October 5, 1895, the new hospital with 150 beds was completed using the pavilion system. After completion, the surgical (pavilion 1), internal medicine (pavilion 2), and infectious (pavilion 3) wards, as well as administration, were ready. The Austrian Emperor Franz Josef I personally opened the Kaiser Franz Joseph Hospital in St. Pölten on October 5, 1895.

The operating room saw 275 surgeries in its first year, which was finished in 1895.

Pavilion 1 and Pavilion 2 were added to the complex in 1915.At the time, there were 320 beds available.

Pavilion 1 was enlarged to three levels while Pavilion 3 had numerous expansions between 1927 and 1936. Furthermore, surgery was extended, and specialty departments such as X-ray, gynaecology, ENT, and eye were established.

Pavilion 4 went into service in 1941.The hospital was largely devastated by bombs during WWII.The repair of the facilities was fraught with problems.
